Why street education?
Millions of abandoned and forgotten children eke out a living on the streets of cities around the world as beggars, thieves and drug dealers.
They lack food, shelter, care and education. Education is one of the basic human rights that should be available to all humankind. Without education they are abandoned to their fate, without the slightest chance of a decent future.
Students with difficult life situations such as these cannot manage attending traditional, or mainstream schools. They react by not complying, and they are usually excluded. Their teachers are not equipped with the skills required to educate marginalized and traumatized young people. Worldwide, teachers are not trained to deal with vulnerable young people, yet there are many skilled, motivated and talented people who, through training, could become street educators, delivering sustainable education programs to the most vulnerable young people in society.
The e-learning Masters degree ‘street pedagogy’ can equip teachers to meet the needs of children and young adults living is risky situations.
- The Masters degree provides teachers with insights into the difficult lives of socially disadvantaged children and young people throughout the world.
- The Street Pedagogy Masters degree qualifies teachers who have completed the program to design and participate in life-changing educational work for young people existing in difficult and traumatic situations.
